Howden-le-Wear is a village in South-West Durham, in the North East  of England – ‘Land of The Prince Bishops’.   The main A689 road between Bishop Auckland and Crook crosses the  Beechburn Beck as it passes through the centre.    
Howden-le-Wear is 20 minutes’ travelling time from Durham and  Darlington mainline rail stations and approximately 1 hour from  Newcastle International Airport and Tyneside North Sea Ferry links.   Nearby motorways and roads connect with the rest of the UK, the  Northern Pennine Dales, Cumbrian Lake District, Northumbria and  Scottish Borders, all designated Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty’.
